Inverbrora Farm Bed & Breakfast

A Bed and Breakfast in East Sutherland

Photo - Inverbrora Farm Bed & Breakfast

Built in 1821 from local Clynelish granite, less than a mile from Brora village, sits this beautiful Grade ‘B’-listed farmhouse. The 1821 crest above the front door is just one historical feature, depicting the joint Stafford/Sutherland coat of arms.

Inverbrora enjoys tranquil and truly unspoilt surroundings. Nearby rocky and sandy beaches are home to seals and oyster catchers with the odd sighting of bottlenose dolphins. Our land on the shore incorporates some incredible Jurassic rock, along with an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). A herd of around 160 dairy cows - and resident Hereford bull - happily co-exist with many other beautiful creatures around the farmhouse, including damselflies, frogs, butterflies and buzzards. You'll find plenty of ducks and a few herons milling about on the pond.

The east coast of Sutherland offers lots of exciting activities and tourist attractions to keep visitors’ itineraries full for days. A longer stay at Inverbrora will allow you time to experience them all.

A visit to Dunrobin Castle, less than ten minutes along the coastline towards Golspie, will make you feel like you've escaped into a Harry Potter novel with its magically distinctive conical spires and French château styling. The house has 189 rooms full of fascinating history dating back to the early 1300s and is open to visitors from April – October.

Brora, Golspie, Dornoch, Tain and Helmsdale are short journeys from Inverbrora and offer plenty of unique shops and restaurants. Don’t miss the beautiful cashmere and wool from Brora’s Kingcraig Fabrics, chocolates from Cocoa Mountain in Dornoch, amazing cheeses from Highland Fine Cheeses and beautifully handmade glassware from North Coast Glass in Tain.

East Sutherland is a renowned golf location with world class courses including Brora, Golspie, Royal Dornoch and Tain.

The Private House Stay's Guide

East Sutherland

East Sutherland lies north of the Dornoch firth until the start of Caithness above Brora. The county also stetches westwards to Ullapool although its definition can be a bit confusing as most of it has a Inverness-shire postcode and is thus identified by Private House Stays as North Highlands. The area has some good farming land as well as the usual beautiful highland scenery, dotted with whisky distilleries, lochs, rivers and mountains. Dornoch, Tain, Golspie and Brora are all highland towns with their own interesting histories and culture. Dornoch has a world famous championship golf course, the bird watching and coastal scenery are spectacular and the Falls of Shin are also recommended for a visit.
