The Falkirk Wheel

Bannockburn

About

The opening of the Falkirk Wheel in 2002 was part of plans to regenerate Central Scotlands canals, linking Edinburgh and Glasgow once again. Designers wanted to create a dramatic, modern landmark instead of emulating the usual lock flight seen historically in canals. The grand landmark stands 115 ft tall and raises boats by 79 ft.
The Falkirk Wheel is free to visitors, and the visitor centre has a café where you can watch the wheel in action! 60 minute boat trips are avialble to guest who want to experience this amazing feat of engineering for themselves which also boasts stunning views over Central Scotland.
